CIVIL PROTECTION AUTHORITY SIGNS COOPERATION AGREEMENT WITH AQUATIC-DIVE

Dili, October 1, 2024 (Média Democracai) – The Civil Protection Authority signed a cooperation agreement with the Aquatic-Dive company in preparation for the selection of 30 candidates for special forces and also to facilitate swimming training. The activity was held at the APC hall on Monday.

In the discourse delivered by the Secretary of State of the Civil Protection Authority, Domingos Mariano Reis said that based on the organic law of the APC there is also a maritime unit to save the community in the event of a disaster at sea, therefore through the signing of this agreement in order to prepare the selection of candidates for this special unit, they can receive training from the Aquatic-Dive company.

“Today we are again making a unique history by establishing cooperation between APC and Diving Company to provide training to our special unit on swimming, based on the Basic Law APC also has a maritime unit tasked with rescuing victims of disasters at sea, therefore we need human resources, financial resources and sea facilities. The special unit is tasked with selecting our special members based on the requirements that have been prepared by technicians and not recruiting people who are old and have asthma, tuberculosis and not selecting people with disabilities in the legs and hands because it is a risk to their lives, because working at sea is different from working on land.” He said

He emphasized that the number of candidates to be selected is 30 people, for that APC advised the Operation Commander and the Director of the Special Unit to apply the rules in the selection, it must be strict because it is not easy, the requirements are that candidates must be at least 18 years old and a maximum of 25 years old and not suffer from asthma and tuberculosis.

In addition, the Commander of the National Civil Protection Operations, Assistant Inspector of Police, Nuno Rumaldo Gomes emphasized that based on the allocation of funds in the national civil protection operations center, the APC also wants to build a special maritime unit to be able to respond to disaster situations at sea.

“The purpose of signing this cooperation is to provide training on maritime areas, because our resources to respond to maritime emergency situations are very lacking, therefore with the funds collected at the APC national operations center we want to have internal resources that can start organizing when an accident occurs at sea with the resources we have that can provide a resolution to the situation.” He said.

He added that the training was for 30 special units and a selection would be conducted for five days, the initial stage being able to swim to a depth of 200 meters because civil protection operations already have swimming equipment so that through this training they can respond to emergencies at sea.

As the Founder of Aquatic-Dive Resorts Lda, Desmond Tuck Meng Lee said that this establishment, Aquatic-Dive itself would facilitate training for special units regarding maritime areas so that they can work safely.

“In the short term, Aquatic-Dive will make plans regarding this course or training, and in this training, an assessment will also be carried out for members of the special unit who are taking part in the training so that it can be known who can swim and who cannot,” He said.

He explained that the Aquatic-Dive Company will prepare facilities for training activities for members of the special unit, so that their safety can be guaranteed when swimming in the sea while participating in special unit training at sea.
