WATERAID HELD A NATIONAL WORKSHOP

Dili, October 8, 2024 (Média Democracia) – Wateraid collaborates with national organizations to hold workshops with the theme, “Strengthening the Inclusive WASH Sector and Climate Change”. This workshop was held by Hall Hak, Farol, Dili.

In the opening of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Coordinating Ministry for Social Affairs as well as the Internal Ministry, Mariano Assanami Sabino said, this workshop was very important because it was able to gather national and international sectors to discuss this matter which would be implemented in existing programs.

“On behalf of the government expressed my gratitude to the Australian government for supporting the waterid to provide this workshop for the organization and also to the municipal authorities more focused on water, sanitation and health. Hoping through this three-day workshop can have good results.” Said the Deputy Minister and the Coordinating Ministry for Social Affairs and the Internal Ministry, Mariano Assanami Sabino

He continued, also asked to organizations that participated in this activity to be able to use well about these things that are currently owned to develop well and see on water, sanitation and health of this country and ask the organization to pay attention on dam.

In an interview with the executive director of Wateraid, Justino Da Silva said that the workshop was open by the Deputy Prime Minister and now as the Internal Ministry, the main purpose of this workshop was to gather all sectors in Timor-Leste to exchange ideas in this workshop activity to pay attention to pay attention water, sanitation and health related to climate change.

“This activity was held for three days and participated fully by the organization to discuss and produce the results of discussion ideas from the exchange of ideas because this activity participated by municipal authority, national and international organizations to pay attention to water, sanitation and health and also on climate change which now faced by our country.” Said Executive Director of Wateraid

He continued, the three-day discussion would focus more on law and politics related to water and sanitation. In addition, it also focuses on planning and strategies issued from the government related to water, sanitation and health and also in financial aspects, especially in the investment of the sector itself.

‘Now we will also look at the coordination and integration pathway for the fields of water, sanitation and health, and in this discussion will see about the institutional arrangements issued more related to the capacity of the sector to answer the needs, in addition we will discuss about monitoring issued for data existing, and also some issued about inventory, accounting, community participation. This will be discussed in a three -day workshop.”  He added

He said, firmly by the Internal Prime Ministry requested to collaborate with national and international organizations to carry out work such as priority problems that will be increased by the Internal Prime Ministry because this is a compromise from the past, so today utilizes the presence of the President of BTL.Ep and the other organization, so hope this will solve first.

Added by representatives of the Australian Embassy as also as the first secretary of DFAT, Fiona Meehan said that grateful because today can participate in this workshop and through this workshop can identify what problems are priority to make development in the welfare of this country.

“It is very important to discuss about gender equality, disability, social inclusion issued on climate change for the BTL.Ep program, the Australian government also collaborates with the Timor-Leste government to achieve our goals for this development for the community and the country.”  She said

She added, through this collaboration government support for the WASH sector through WaterAid to implement programs such as water, sanitation, and health in two cities such as, Manufahi and Liquiça, starting from 2023 these programs also focus on assumption and coordination from the national level and international to implement this program in municipalities.

For more details about this workshop held by WaterAid for three days (08-10/2024 – 10/10/2024) who received support by the Australian government through the WASH Sector and participated by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Coordinating Ministry for Social Affairs as well as the Internal Ministry and National and International Organizations, Municipal Authorities, Chairman of BTL.Ep and the communities.
