Dili, October 26, 2024 (Média Democracia) – Employees of the Secretary of State for Equality held a blood donation activity to be given to the Guido Valadares National Hospital organized by the Blood Bank Department.
In order to commemorate National Women’s Day, SEI employees held a blood donation activity entitled “One drop of blood can save someone’s life”
“Today, the Secretary of State for Equality in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, especially the Director of the Blood Bank, to hold a blood donation activity and also support for a place of cooperation from Timor Plaza.” SEI said.
This activity was carried out to commemorate the 48th National Women’s Day of Timor-Leste which on November 3, 2024, every year it is held with the theme “Women in the National Development Process after 25 Years of Popular Consultation”
SEI’s main director said that SEI invited all parties to take part in this activity.
“We extend an invitation to all parties from SEI such as Ministries/Institutions, PNTL and others as well as partners from Civil Society who have been working on the issue of Inclusive Equality, so that this activity will last until the afternoon, open to the public so that everyone can arrange their time to donate their blood.” Said the Director
The Director explained that the blood donation event at Timor Plaza was held so that people who came to the place could have the opportunity to donate their blood.
“We do it in this place with the aim of those who are not invited, but if they come to Timor Plaza and want to donate blood, they can do it,” said the Director.
Meanwhile, the commemoration of National Women’s Day will be held in Quelicai on November 6, 2024 together with the community.
As the Head of the Blood Bank Department, Aleixandre Mendonça said that this blood donation activity was held by SEI in order to commemorate National Women’s Day, while also expressing his gratitude to all SEI employees who voluntarily donated their blood to HNGV.
“So they came and donated blood, this is not the first time, but every year they always donate blood to help our friends who are patients who currently need help through blood,” he said.
He explained that regarding the number of people who will donate their blood, it is still unknown, this is prepared by SEI because they are the ones organizing this activity, after that we will see from the data how many people donate their blood.
On the other hand, as a donor, Nuno Celestino Soares emphasized that related to today’s theme, which is, “A drop of blood can save someone’s life,” therefore he has the awareness to donate his blood.
“I consciously donate my blood to be donated to BdS, so that it can be stored and can be used when our brothers and sisters need it, so that it can be donated immediately.” He said.
He admitted that he felt happy because he could donate his blood to other people, if in the future he could save the lives of other people who needed help through blood.
