Dili, October 29, 2024 (Média Democracia) – Marcelina Oleveira is 9 years old from Lautem, currently living in Pante-kelapa, she attends Lurumata Elementary School in grade 4. In her free time she always runs a small business such as selling mangoes on the side of the road.
According to Marcelina, during the two-week school holidays, every day she always sold mangoes on the side of the road with the aim of earning money so that when the holidays were over she could pay for public transportation and buy other necessities.
“The mangoes that I sell every day I bring $ 4.00, one plastic is 0.25 cents, so it is easy for people to buy quickly, because there are also many who sell mangoes on the side of the road and they are all adults, sometimes the mangoes that I sell are not sold out because they know a place that can be bought quickly.” Said Marcelina
She added that the mangoes she sells are priced at 0.25 cents per two plastic bags, making it easy for people to buy them because in Farol Park, in front of the Palace to Largo Lecidere, there are many people who do small businesses such as selling mangoes.
“During the two-week school holiday, I decided that I had to sell mangoes every day because the mangoes I sell are my own, so in the morning my father will pick the mangoes and I will choose, wash, cut the mangoes to be filled in plastic, then I put them in jars so I can take them to sell on the side of the road.” She said.
She added that in the morning after breakfast, at exactly 9 am, she started walking to sell mangoes from her house, Kampo Alor, to Largo Lecidere. If her merchandise is sold out, she will return to her house, if not, then she will move until her merchandise is sold out.
To be more precise, Marcelina is the second of six siblings, but she likes to do small businesses on the side of the road so that she can earn money to pay for public transportation for her school, because she has an ambition to become a nurse in the future.
