Dili, September 24, 2024 (Média Democracia) – The Secretary of State for Equality (SEI) collaborated with the F-FDTL to facilitate training for F-FDTL members totaling 15 people, consisting of 12 women and 3 men, members of the Land, Air, General Support Components of the Army including the General Headquarters will attend one-week training with the theme, “Violensia Bazeia ba Jéneru (VBJ)” (Gender Based Violence) at the Esperança hall, on Monday.
In an interview with the National Director of Gender Equality Politics of SEI, Celeste Ramos Martins Gonçalves explained more clearly with today’s program regarding training on how to focus on the politics of preventing gender-based violence and what kind of importance can focus on political solutions of women in guarding in this country.
“Seeing these problems, SEI will not work alone but will collaborate with TAF Nabilan to see this program and also provide support for gender-based violence prevention programs, in addition SEI will also work with F-FDTL which will attend a one-week training to see clearly what the goals are and what is affected and its implementation in the F-FDTL institution itself related to gender-based violence prevention policies.” Said the National Director of Gender Equality Politics SEI
He said, SEI considers it important and provides training on gender-based violence to increase knowledge about what violence prevention policies actually are so that they can ensure and guarantee violence prevention policies in all institutions.
“The reason we identified F-FDTL itself as the key situation in the politics of the national action plan, more focus on gender-based violence is also considered with the part of F-FDTL to ensure and guarantee in its own institutions, which means that this prevention is a special task not only for SEI but for all entities including F-FDTL.” He said
SEI continued to look at gender-based violence cases for the 2024 period, SEI has not yet published data on the violence, but in the 2023 period with a total of more than a thousand cases recorded by SEI with various types of violence such as sexual violence which focuses more on incest cases, gender-based violence, domestic violence and also family neglect, those are some of the violence recorded by SEI, SEI continues to strive to facilitate training for various entities in order to minimize the occurrence of such violence in this country.
On the other hand, Captain Marquita da Cunha said the purpose of the one-week training was to prepare military members, both male and female, especially in the vocal aspect of the military components and general supporters including the Military Headquarters to become participants in training on gender-based violence. Through this training, it can raise awareness of military members who do not yet have knowledge about violence.
“This training was held because of the coordination between F-FDTL and SEI to share materials related to gender-based violence and other violence that has occurred in society, especially in the family environment and in the F-FDTL institutional environment and other institutions.” Said Captain
Captain Marquita da Cunha said that cases of violence in the F-FDTL environment itself do exist but are not publicized, therefore, with the training that will be carried out for one week for military members, it can provide a little knowledge about gender-based violence, so that they can prevent violence from occurring in the future.
