Dili, December 6, 2024 (Média Democracia) – The Secretary of State for Equality (SEI) together with the Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employees (SEFOPE) have begun discussions on how to prevent Gender Based Violence and Sexual Harassment in the workplace.
Director of National Public Relations and Media of S.E.I., Maria Filomena Babo Martins said today S.E.I. began consulting with the SEFOPE team on how to prevent Violence and Sexual Harassment in the workplace.
“The purpose of this meeting is to conduct a consultation on Gender-Based Violence to find out how the collaboration between S.E.I. and SEFOPE has been so far to prevent violence and sexual harassment in the workplace.” She said in a Press Conference accessed by Média Democracia via the S.E.I page, on December 5, 2024.
She informed that S.E.I. has a working group that collaborates with the line ministries including SEFOPE on how to achieve Gender Equality in Social Inclusion and Gender Based Violence.
She said, “S.E.I. collaborates with SEFOPE which focuses on domestic work law, people who care for others, gender-based violence, talking more about the work that is currently done by women that can pose a risk of sexual violence or sexual harassment.”
She stressed that S.E.I. proposed to the SEFOPE team to provide training for female workers who have met the requirements to work in Australia.
“Training on Gender-Based Violence so that the public knows the types of gender-based violence, how to respond and know about sexual violence and sexual harassment which so far many people still consider that sexual harassment is a normal thing and not included in the category of violence.” She added.
To be clear, this training on sexual harassment is very important for our sisters who serve anywhere, so that they can fight against sexual violence or sexual harassment if they experience it.
