MCI ENCOURAGES TAIS MAKERS TO CONTINUE PRODUCING TAIS

Dili, December 20, 2024 (Média Democracia) – Tais as a traditional cloth of Timor-Leste which is considered a cultural heritage from the ancestors and its existence has been passed down from generation to generation until now, has cultural values and the history of the lives of the people of Timor-Leste.

Because Tais is also an important element in traditional ceremonies of communities in the national territory, the use of Tais has a clear meaning and can become the identity of Timor-Leste.

From birth to death, Timorese people use Tais for cultural ceremonies and social practices as death or living culture, Fetosan and Umane, welcoming guests and also representing cultural identity and ethnic groups.

The Minister of Trade and Industry (MCI), Filipus Nino Perreira Prego said that Tais is the identity of the Timor-Leste people, the government has good politics to continue to concentrate on the development of Tais in Timor-Leste.

“The Ministry of Education has also socialized that school uniforms must have Tais motifs to be more useful, because Tais craftsmen and friends who are directly involved in the Tais group who have local potential and value who want to guarantee Tais production, must have economic value,” said the Minister of Industry to reporters at the MCI Office, Wednesday.

He emphasized that because Tais has economic value, Tais makers also appreciate this value, but the quality of Tais is also good so the price is based on quality.

“Because Tais has economic value, that’s why Tais craftsmen also value its economic value, so they sell it with good quality, the price is also a bit expensive, but we also have to look at the quality of Tais, because Tais is the identity of Timor Leste.” He said.

He added that tais is the identity of Timor Leste and also a representation of the country, so the price is quite expensive.

“Tais is a representation of the country, so the price is definitely a bit expensive, some can cost up to $50.00 or more, but the price depends on the quality of the Tais, we continue to encourage the Tais makers so that they are enthusiastic to continue producing Tais again.” He said.

In addition, he also asked all parties to continue to encourage the enthusiasm of tais makers to continue producing so that they can contribute to the country’s economy.
