According to the MC, Cristiano José Trindade (Wantan) said that the legislative organs of the National Parliament Government Constitutional Member on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 discuss program of the National Parliament Extraordinary Plenary Section presented proposed to buy new cars for Deputies.
“Proposal to buy luxury cars for deputies as programs presented every period even though people are always opposed but they continue to buy in every period, today the IX National Parliamentary Constitutional Government continues to produce laws on buying luxury cars, Despite throwing people’s money which they agreed on 18/09 /2-24 with a total of 40 million USD to be used based on their desires, no matter about the suffering of the people. Now, in Timor-Leste in the economic crisis with a lot of debt from federal banks and other banks from other countries, therefore there are still many people who live in poverty in Timor-Leste starting from infants to adults.” He said
He continued that MUTL together with all people did not agree and consider this political decision as injustice or legal corruption of 65 deputies in the national parliament that made and threatened to the state of Timor-Leste, therefore they could take advantage of their salaries.
“MUTL asked the Deputy to cancel their legal proposal no. 4 About Deputy Transportation Vehicles or buying a new car for a deputy with many absolute votes on 18/09/2024 with a conscience and asks the President of the Republic to cancel this law because it only gives advantage for some group not everyone, asking deputies to use their own salaries because they get high salaries and to not only be used to explore people and use money not based on people’s wishes. MUTL together with the Timorese people against the decisions of representatives in the National Parliament and consider this to be corruption, therefore it is necessary to immediately protect the future of the country.” He added
He emphasized that the representatives of people who needed to weigh the decision long before making decisions because some people lived in poverty and needed to be considered, because the price of basic needs was very expensive in the market that provided an impact on the needs of the poor.
Amino Lunturu added that Mutl did not agree with the political decisions of the Republican president based on the program of buying luxury cars for deputies because now many people are still screaming for development.
“The situation stated by the President supports the people, because now the Timor-Leste situation is very serious, many problems faced by people such as, health, education, economy. Funds approved to buy Prado, why not allocate money to make maintenance to the car they use now, whether the lives of people are worthless and they have suffered for 20 years but our leaders have no heart for their own people and their position assume, people reduce their trust to treat their lives well, but now people face the problems of basic needs and agricultural sectors.” He said
MUTL disagreed with the actions that the Deputy show in the National Parliament and the President of the Republic decision, therefore MUTL will remain alert if they continue to buy cars, MUTL compromise to make maintenance actions to really block the national parliament gate to cancel buying cars for deputies.
