Dili, October 30, 2024 (Média Democracia) – In connection with Timor-Leste’s National Women’s Day which on November 3, 2024, the UN Women’s “Together for Equality” Program Manager of Timor-Leste leaves a message to celebrate this important day.
“Together for Equality” Program Manager, Nuntana Tangwinit conveyed her message to all women in Timor-Leste to exercise freedom in this country so that they have the same rights as men.
“Especially for women on National Women’s Day to exercise our freedom in the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, women have the same freedom and rights as men so that women feel that they can indeed use the rights given by the constitution to exercise their freedom and also so that women can feel that it is time for them to express themselves, their feelings, their desires and their enthusiasm.” Nuntana Tangwinit said on City8 on Thursday
She said that when all women exercise their freedom, it can increase their self-confidence so that society cannot oppress them.
“Because when we exercise freedom or express ourselves, we can also increase our own self-confidence and it appears in our minds that the truth is I can and no one can suppress me, so I do not exercise my rights as a woman in Timor-Leste,” She said.
She said that although this message was only aimed at women, but it was also aimed at people in vulnerable conditions and at members of the LGBT community.
“Although this message is focused on women because it coincides with National Women’s Day, this message should be directed to everyone, especially those who live in vulnerable conditions, our society such as children, both boys and girls, the LGBT community who also live in vulnerable conditions due to social practices that sometimes discriminate and do not pay attention to their rights.” She said.
In addition, this is a short message from the Program Manager “Together for Equality” UN Women Timor-Leste for women to use their freedom and express themselves.
