Dili, October 1, 2024 (Media Democracia)– Plan International together with youth, girls and various groups from 10 organizations launched a campaign with the theme “Unite for Peace” to commemorate the International Day of the Girl (IDG) through this global campaign to inspire the public to get involved in decision-making and spread peace, on Monday
In this Press Conference, the representative of the Country Director of Plan International Timor-Leste, Brand Ambassador for youth and diversity, KayOlo Sword Gusmão said that on International Day of the Girl 2024 Plan International is present to provide solidarity with girls living in conflict and climate risk in the world.
“Through Unite for Peace, we can eliminate the devastating impacts of conflict on girls and boys around the world. Through concrete and collective action, we can prevent climate risks. Plan International will continue and strengthen the “Unite for Peace” campaign in a strong partner impact program.” He said.
He continued, currently Plan International is asking for immediate action to support girls, boys and civil society who face conflict, and climate risk every day.
“Our recommendation for girls who are particularly affected during conflicts, disasters and climate risks is that this issue must be stopped with concrete actions through the government, donors and civil society, because we all have to prevent conflicts and reduce climate risks that occur in this country,” He said.
In this press conference, it is requested that the leaders of Timor-Leste, the government, donors and civil society immediately pay attention, especially to Timor-Leste and the world, to protect girls who experience conflict and the climate risks associated with these actions.
“Immediately implement and initiate discussions on the continuation of peace and goals in freedom to ensure the voice of girls and young people as special needs in every plan, and action must respond to take urgent and collective action for the major climate risks in Timor-Leste and in the world.” He added.
He further explained that support for safe and inclusive education for girls and young people, including financial allocation for the implementation of safe school declarations and alternative learning process approaches when schools are closed.
To ensure that girls, boys and adolescent girls have access to food, water and shelter, employment for victims of violence is a priority, including girls and adolescents to ensure access to comprehensive case management, sexual and reproductive health, psychosocial support and rehabilitation.
“Strengthening local economies and providing employment opportunities for girls, boys and young people to have adequate choices, according to their respective needs. Therefore, in the framework of the celebration of International Day of the Girl 2024, various activities will be held with the aim of providing concrete attention to spread this awareness.” He continued in a press conference.
For more details, related to the celebration of International Day of the Girl, activities will be held including the launch of the Unite for Peace campaign, Girls Take Over, girls convey their concerns and leaders will respond to them, launching TikTok “Unite for Peace” from young people and girls speaking on TV and media, will launch short videos on climate risk to raise public awareness.
