Dili, December 13, 2024 (Média Democracia) – The Ministry of Home Affairs was the first speaker in the meeting on Benteng Institutional Cooperation to overcome administrative obstacles and continue the process related to Criminal Procedure between PNTL and the Ministry of Public Affairs to provide better input for the national stability of RDTL. This activity was held at the Suai Room, Timor Plaza, Dili, on Thursday.
According to the Minister of Home Affairs, Francisco da Costa said, the activities held today are very important to see from the security and institutional side because the regions are always separated so they can work together in supervision.
“However, there is a problem that always exists, which is the question of criminal investigations because there is almost always a question of why the police are conducting an investigation just because there is a technical question that must be stopped because it does not meet the legal and security requirements,” said Interior Minister Francisco da Costa Guterres
He continued, therefore, through this meeting, it can help to question the problems that have been faced by institutions in the field, both security and material issues.
“However, the authority to process these issues must be in the hands of the Attorney General because the Police are only the Prosecutor’s guards, so they can conduct investigations into several issues. However, the Police must work well and understand the requirements, only then can the Prosecutor bring these cases to court, this is very important, therefore we are holding this meeting to establish good communication between the PNTL and the Court so that the work can run smoothly.” He said.
He added that by looking at these two things, it can help the country to further strengthen national resilience because to bring a case to court, it must meet material and personal requirements. If the technical requirements are not met, the process will fail so that this problem will not move forward because everything requires communication and strong evidence.
Further explained that the meeting was also attended by the Minister of Home Affairs and several Leaders such as PNTL and Falintil Força Defesa Timor-Leste, Sic National Investigation SNI, the Attorney General of the Republic who also discussed the issue of Strengthening Institutional Collaboration between PNTL and the Ministry of Public Affairs in order to provide counseling regarding better National Stability of RDTL.
