PROMOTING LOCAL FOOD, SEI SUPPORTS 23 BENEFICIARY GROUPS

Dili, October 9, 2024 (Média Democracia) – The Secretary of State for Equality (SEI) together with representatives of the Presidential Palace, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Heineken Company signed an agreement with 23 beneficiaries for the Timor-Leste Food Program to empower women in the economy and promote local food. The event was held at the Maria Goreti-SEI hall, Caicoli, Dili.

During the signing of the agreement, Secretary of State for Equality, Elvina Sousa Carvalho said that the beneficiaries who received funds from SEI and facilitated training on local food were the Presidential Palace, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Heineken Company.

She said SEI’s role is to strengthen the role of women in political life and support public transfer funding to empower women’s activities and others.

“In addition to strengthening women in politics, SEI also has an important mission to strengthen women’s economy, from strengthening women’s economy, SEI has a fund called Public Transfer Fund, now you will be beneficiaries or will receive something from this fund, the function of this fund is to strengthen you through creating businesses or economic activities.” She said.

She also hopes that through the funds, materials and training that have been provided so far, they can support the activities of the beneficiary groups well.

As a representative of the Presidential Palace, Iram Saeed in his intervention expressed his appreciation to SEI and the team who had done their job very well.

“My appreciation to SEI and the team led by the Head of the Department of Women’s Empowerment in the Economic Sector and the team who have carried out their duties very well in this short term, good cooperation can be established between SEI and 23 beneficiaries.” He said.

He added that through this accprddance as a major assistance from SEI in order to support the business activities of the beneficiaries in meeting their daily needs.

Therefore, the objective of the Timor-Leste Food Program is to empower women in the economy and promote local food including modern local food diversification through this food business activity as Street Food as a feasible activity for all beneficiaries.
