Dili, December 18, 2024 (Média Democracia) – Rosalino Vicente Cárceres de Carvalho, 18 years old from Laclo, Manatuto, currently lives in Bebonuk. After finishing his high school in Santo António Manatuto Villa, he decided to earn a living to help his family by selling goods in Farol Park.
He admitted that he had graduated from high school, but because of his family’s economic condition, he could not afford to send him to college, so he decided to sell used goods to help his family.
“In our family of 5 siblings, two girls and three boys, I am the youngest. I live in a simple family and the other siblings are married, I graduated from high school in 2024 and plan to continue my studies, but our economy is not enough. So, I decided to earn a living by helping my sister sell at Jardin Park. Every morning I always help my sister with housework such as preparing breakfast and preparing food to be sold. We leave the house at 08.30 using a Bemo and return at 19.00. The items we sell such as coffee, water, cigarettes and others, we sell these items based on the needs of the buyer. Every day we earn $ 15.00 to $ 20.00, I manage this money myself to meet my daily needs.” He said
He explained that the daily activities he does can meet the needs of daily life when living in the city and do not try to get money then how can we live, do not be ashamed and bored to earn a living in the city.
“My daily activities are helping my sister sell small things, sometimes my sister brings her wares to the side of the road, and waits for the goods to arrive at the place. When I started selling I was shy but after a week I started to get used to it and was no longer shy about selling. If we live and are embarrassed to sell, how can we get money to meet our daily needs.” He added.
He continued to keep trying, be persistent and don’t be shy, because life is not easy to earn money. The plan for the future is to continue college but still in the process, believing that one day he can achieve his dream.
