Dili, December 4, 2024 (Média Democracia) – The Secretary of State for Social Communication (SEKOMS) held a news writing training for the media in the Ministry’s path with a total of 37 participants for two days. This training was held in the MNEC hall.

In an interview with the Director General of SEKOMS, Florindo da Costa said that the training held by SEKOMS aims to provide training to media officers in the Ministry’s path, because we see that so far media officers have not written in accordance with journalistic principles, because they are only civil servants, so some still do not have the ability on press written.

“We can observe that publications about ministry activities are very important to provide an overview to the public about what the ministry is doing, therefore the ministry continues to strive, especially media personnel, to publish activities carried out by the ministry, so that the public does not assume that the ministry is not carrying out its duties, so through SEKOMS we want to hold press training on writing to facilitate increasing the capacity of media personnel within the ministry, so that they can always publish activities carried out by the ministry and write in accordance with journalistic principles.” Said the Director General of SEKOMS

He continued, this training continues to be carried out to provide provisions for media personnel in improving writing skills when publishing ministry activities and this training is not only intended for media personnel but also for journalists.

“SEKOMS has a direction to prepare trainers to be able to provide training in every place that needs it. The two-day training has two sessions, such as the first session on press writing, and the second on videographic and also photography. From the two-day training, it is expected that media officers can learn better to be applied in their workplaces,” he continued.

On the other hand, continued by the trainee of Media Officer from the Secretary of the Electricity, Water and Sanitation Service, Veronica de Oliveira Ximenes, today’s activity is very important because as media officers they can find out how to improve the capacity of good press in each ministry.

“As the training participants feel that this training is very important and how it can facilitate us to write good news and in accordance with journalistic principles, because as we know that previously there were media people who were journalists and some who were not. So with training like this, it can facilitate and equip us with better skills in our workplace.” She said.

She added that she hopes that from the two-day activity can learn better, because today’s training has two sessions, such as today’s on press writing and the second day’s on videography and photography.
