SELLING BANANAS TO PAY FOR SCHOOL AND BOARDING HOUSE

Dili, October 23, 2024 (Media Democracia) – Junizio Campos Xavier, 18 years old, every day he always divides his time between running a business by selling bananas using carts on the sidewalk to pay for school and boarding house.

According to Junizio that as long as he lived in Dili, he began to have an idea to run a business so he could pay for school fees and boarding houses.

“I come from Viqueque, Lacluta and currently I live in the Taibesi Market and study at Nobel da Paz in grade 11. If I have time, I always run a business on the side of the road to get money to support my daily needs and some to be sent to my parents in the municipality.” He said

He continued, the banana he sold always bought from Viqueque, but he bought the banana from someone else, five combs bananas he bought for $ 1.00 so that everyone could sometimes buy up to $ 2.00.

“If we want to buy a banana for sale in Dili, we always collect money to pay for trucks so that we can transport bananas to Dili, so everyone must collect $ 30.00 and we have six members in our group so we get money with a total of $ 300,00 to pay trucks to bring bananas to Dili.” He added

He added more that when the banana had arrived in Dili, he had to find a way to divide his time between running a business that could not have an impact on his school activities.

“My school starts at 11:00 and finished at 2:30 pm, after the school I returned home for lunch and then I continue with selling bananas from Taibesi to Bairo-Pite, I was through Bebora, Caicoli and then I returned to home, because my school was finished in the afternoon, I could only carry bananas as much as $ 25.00. However, in my free time like on Sunday I can carry $ 50.00 because I started selling from the morning so at evening everything was sold out. The banana that I sell is 0.50 cents, if the comb is large then $ 1.00 so that people can buy it quickly.” He continued

He asserted that the money he got every day, some he used to pay for boarding houses and some to pay for his school and some he sent it to his family in the municipality to pay for his younger school fees.

For more details, Junizio as a student but he has a beautiful thought to create his own activities by running a business on the side of the road to facilitate his needs and support his younger siblings school fees.
