Dili, November 8, 2024 (Média Democracia) – The Timor-Leste Petroleum Engineering Association Section was officially opened for the first time in Timor-Leste in order to bring together industry and engineering to gather in the patrimony section. The event was held at City8, Haslaran, Dili, on Thursday.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MPRM), Francisco Monteiro said that the association for the petroleum sector in Timor-Leste will bring together people who work in this industry and also engineers who have completed their studies at universities and lecturers including other members involved in the association can gather in Timor-Leste.
“As an alternative, the government always supports initiatives that bring together professionals to look at complex issues such as oil so that it can be a place to gather for debate discussions on relevant topics in this industry because it is very complex in this forum.” Said the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco Monteiro
He continued, SPE is doing very good negotiations, our Prime Minister has spoken in the National Parliament so the process will go smoothly, so we want to speed it up so that in the end we can decide to take a decision in order to develop Grites Sanrise to pull a gift to Timor-Leste.
“These steps are still in process, in the second meeting we can facilitate but in some parts it is still in process so the discussion is better disseminated because there are many interests within that need to be discussed better to facilitate,” He said.
On the other hand, the Chairman of SPE, Fernando da Silva, said that SPE was established in many countries, but it had only just been established in Timor-Leste. Currently, there are 145 countries with 1.90 million people from professional circles, including students, who are involved in this organization.
“This year, in Timor Leste, our team had a meeting to discuss the possibility of establishing this association in Timor Leste, because we have a lot of students so we take part in the oil sector industry which is a very big thing for Timor Leste,” He said.
He continued, 20 years ago there was a lot of experience, this year we have completed 20 years of production from Bayu-Undang starting from the exploration and development stage of production.
“We are currently talking about the dismantling of many industrial sectors that are taking part in Timor-Leste, there is a need for lessons and experiences to be shared technically and he professionally,” He said.
He added that SPE in Timor-Leste could be a facilitator forum to provide an opportunity for everyone to share interconnected experiences.
“The important role is to connect between SPE members and all members in the world and connect with technological changes, currently we are especially in the oil development sector and connect with industry partners.” He added.
He added that experience and lessons are very valuable in the field of oil industry and science, because Timor-Leste can start with a forum that can bring together experts who play a direct or indirect role in the oil industry in Timor-Leste.
“The benefit when we become members is that we can get technical access, which is needed in other countries about this industry and experts when we access and there is also the opportunity to attend conference symposiums and workshops in the country and abroad.” He said.
He emphasized that, in addition to the President of SPE International, he would give recognition to SPE in Timor Leste. We began submitting proposals to SPE International in early June this year so that could be approved by the President of SPE International in the United States.
To be more precise, SPE members number of 50 people, coming from representatives of Timor-Leste oil companies and some from Timor Gap and AMP, so in the future promotions will be carried out so that everyone knows well the benefits of being an SPE member.
